Qualcomm's  Globalstar GSP-1600 Tri-Mode phone is designed to handle calls made from CDMA (IS-95) and AMPS (IS-41) cellular systems, as well as calls from the Globalstar Satellite Communications System.

The Globalstar antenna, when held in a vertical position, communicates with the Globalstar satellites at elevations more than 10° above the horizon. The Globalstar antenna rotates and stows in the handset for convenience when not in use.
